How Our Name Generator Wheel Works
Each generator combines a curated name dataset with the same editable spinning-wheel experience. Here is what happens from the moment you open a generator to the moment the pointer lands on a result.
Open a generator
The page starts with a dataset built for that generator topic. The site loads a fresh subset of names onto the wheel rather than displaying the full source pool at once.
Customize the wheel
You can generate another set, change the number of displayed names, shuffle the wheel, or open the editor and replace the generated entries with your own names.
Spin for one result
When you press Spin, the browser selects a winner and then animates the wheel so the pointer lands on that selected entry. The visual animation does not decide the result after the fact.
What You Can Change
- Generate New Names: loads another random subset from the page dataset.
- Edit wheel names: lets you replace the generated list with your own entries.
- Shuffle: changes the order of the current wheel entries.
- Remove Winner: removes the selected result so you can spin again without it.
- Save: stores a favorite locally in your browser.
- Fullscreen: enlarges the wheel for classrooms, games, presentations or shared screens.
Browser-Side Selection
The spinning-wheel selection happens in your browser. When Web Crypto is available, the wheel uses the browser’s crypto.getRandomValues() capability to produce random integers. Browsers without Web Crypto fall back to Math.random().
Custom wheel entries are processed by the wheel interface in the browser. Saved favorites are also stored locally on that device. For a more technical explanation, read Randomness & Fair Selection.
